With 30,000+ ( yes, over thirty thousand now! ) downloads so far, Comments Evolved for WordPress ( formerly Google+ Comments for WordPress ) has been a huge success. I've just released version 1.5 and if your not yet aware of the plugin, It makes the comment section tabbed adding tabs for G+ Comments, Facebook, Disqus, WordPress Comments, Livefyre, Trackbacks to wordpress.
If a user is required to create an account with your site before they can comment, you might as well ask them to fetch you a soda from mars. It’s probably not going to happen. However, if you can give them the option to comment with an account they’ve already set up, then you will be much more likely to get some interaction.
Version 1.5 brings rebranding to Comments Evolved name as well as many code improvements, a shortcode for displaying the comment section, groundwork for showing comment counts ( not yet 100% complete due to a few performance concerns ), and a new Github repository for those of you that would like to contribute to the development. A complete change log can be found here.
As always, feel free to drop a donation at WePay if you can and let me know what you think in the comments below, Also be sure to get in touch if you would like to contribute to the Github Repository.
My Google+ Comments for WordPress plugin has been a smashing success with over 2,500 installs so far in just barely couple of weeks. I've just pushed up version 1.4.0 for release with some notable updates that many of you have been asking for, so go grab it and let me know what you think.
I've just completed the upload and tagging of the new gplus-comments A.K.A. G+ Commenting System that started out only for Blogger, and still officially that is the case. But I've packed up the functionality and look thats powered by the same google backend too but installable on any WordPress.org self hosted blog with just 2 or 3 clicks. Well that I accomplished very quickly and put an early build out yesterday as well as a demo install on this site. Well today with the availability of the WordPress.org Hosting I've pushed even more improvements visually as well as now allowing support for other commenting systems to co-exist with G+ ... this will help with not being able to import or export comments from other systems and G+ comments yet, but as soon as the api is ready or there is a workaround thats non-destructive ( to you and google ) then I'll be adding it quickly.
Its full GPL code and I welcome any contributions, just send me a pull request and let me know if you plan to be a significant contributors I'm willing to share the maintainer ship reigns as well ... just be in touch & let me know.
For now Enjoy 1.0.0 thats up for download and I'll post letting everyone know the progress of the next 1.2 update update soon, it will mostly be addressing turning on and off other comment systems from the WordPress backend via options, and easily letting the plugin match your theme without hacking core. What would you like to see that maybe one of the others does very well or very poor/if at all ... Thanks for trying it out and letting me know what ya think!
G+ Comments Plugin @ WordPress.org
With the dust is still settling around here from getting the site all setup on its home on the at WPEngine. Plus getting the initial custom theme "SimpleHero" a little closer to complete ( is a website or theme ever *really* complete ? ) , the theme this website and my personal blog at brandonHoltsclaw.com are running now that I plan to release as OpenSource after most of the ugly hard coded things are abstracted out.
So long story short(er) ... thats when I stumbled across something in my Google Plus stream last night that the G+ Commenting system had been deployed to Blogger.com blogs and that it was also being used on non-blogger sites as well! Well after taking a break from working on the theme and a little bit of digging ... *poof* Google+ Comments plugin for WordPress is born.
Now its still in early development so dont be surprised if its lacking a few features, I'll be working on those right away as well as feedback from any of you as well. So I'd imagine a few releases in quick succession as the G+ Commenting System gets rolled out to more people will undoubtedly happen.
For now you can see the plugin in action here on this site, and you can grab a copy for your self. Just unzip it in your WordPress plugins directory and activate it like normal. Be sure to let me know how things go too, I'm keen to get some feedback.
The plugin is now available in the WordPress Plugins Directory . As of this writing the current version is 1.2 and allows Facebook, Disqus, Native WordPress Comments and Trackbacks all to be optionally shown.
Also many of you have asked where you could donate so I've setup a WePay donations page here. A huge Thank You if you decide to use it!
